During this year I mainly taught years 9, 11, 12 and 13. Here are some of the products produced during the year.
The year 9 course lasted a term, which they made products inspired by their favorite cartoon character, the elements that make up a waka, or Maori fish hook (Matoe) pendant. All projects concentrated on gaining skills in research, design and learning skills that will help with hand to eye coordination.
The year 11 (achievement standard) course was split into to major projects. The first part of the year students were introduced to the origins of design. With the NZ forest and fauna as being the driving force behind the inspiration for their designs. During the second part of the year the students were introduced to contemporary designers. Here they took their ideas from the first project and developed them with the influence from the research into their contemporary designer.
The year 12 and 13s(achievement standard) course concentrated solely on eco-design. These products are to be created from recycling home appliances or e-waste (computers) and can have additions that have been recycled (native timber or other) or produced from a sustainable resource (pine or steel).
